چکیده
Masonry structures constitute an important part of the built environment and architectural heritage in seismic areas. A large number these old showed inadequate performance suffered substantial damage under past earthquakes. Realistic numerical models are required for accurate response predictions addressing implementation effective strengthening solutions. comprehensive mesoscale modeling strategy explicitly allowing masonry bond is presented this paper. It based on advanced nonlinear material interface elements simulating cracks mortar joints brick/block units cyclic loading. Moreover, domain decomposition mesh tying techniques used to enhance computational efficiency detailed simulations. The potential approach shown with reference a case study full-scale unreinforced building previously tested laboratory pseudodynamic results obtained confirm that proposed brick/block-masonry leads representations three-dimensional (3D) structures, both at local global levels. numerical-experimental comparisons show enables remarkably actual dynamic characteristics, along main resisting mechanisms crack patterns.

This article presents a research program on a structure representing a seven-story residential building tested on the shaking table in the NEES [6]. The building was designed using a displacement based capacity approach for a site in Los Angeles resulting design lateral force. The structure is composed of 2 main perpendicular walls connected by slotted connections. The numerical calculations ha...
متن کاملA Study of the Progressive Degradation of Masonry Shear Walls Subjected to Harmonic Loading
This masonry research investigated the differences in the static and dynamic stiffness for the seismic range of loads and frequencies for a pressed clay masonry wythe. The effective stiffness has been defined in Newtonian physics and Damage Mechanics. This research used the concept of measured stiffness defined as the measured stress field divided by the measured strain field. A two-part test r...
متن کاملResistance of Concrete Masonry Walls with Membrane Catcher Systems Subjected to Blast Loading
This paper describes a methodology for analyzing the impulse pressure response of unreinforced concrete masonry walls that have been retrofitted with membranes that are not bonded to the masonry (catcher systems). Membrane catcher systems can be used to protect building occupants from secondary debris resulting from blast pressure, and the effectiveness of systems comprising polymers, composite...
متن کاملLimit states of modern unreinforced clay brick masonry walls subjected to in-plane loading
Recent research showed that the in-plane horizontal displacement capacity of unreinforced masonry (URM) walls depends on numerous factors that are not yet captured by current empirical drift capacity models; e.g., axial stress, shear span, geometry of the walls and the material used. In order to improve the performance-based assessment of URM wall buildings, future research should aim at develo...

In the current work, the seismic analysis of bent region in buried pipes is performed, and effects of soil properties and modeling methods on pipe’s response are investigated. To do this task Beam, Beam-Shell Finite Element modeling and a Continuum shell FE models of a 90 degrees elbow are employed. In the Beam model, the pipe is simulated by beam elements while combined shell-beam elements a...
